Consultation

Neurologists are physicians that treat diseases of the brain and nervous system.  Some of the conditions treated are:

  • Alzheimer's Disease
  • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease)
  • Myasthenia Gravis
  • CIDP
  • Huntingtons Disease
  • Bells Palsy
  • Tardive Dyskinesia

Our providers will talk with you about your medical history and your symptoms. You will also have a physical exam that focuses on your brain and nerves.

EMG/NCS

Electromyography (EMG) measures muscle response or electrical activity in response to a nerve's stimulation of the muscle. The test is used to help detect neuromuscular abnormalities.  A related procedure that may be performed is Nerve Conduction Study (NCS).  NCS is a measurement of the amount and speed of conduction of an electrical impulse through a nerve.  NCS can determine damage and destruction and is often performed at the same time as EMG.  Both procedures help to detect the presence, location, and extent of diseases that damage the nerves and muscles.

BOTOX for Migraine or Movement Disorders

When you  receive your first Botox treatment, expect the appointment to take about 20 minutes.  The provider uses a very small needle that feels like a pin prick.  The provider then injects small amounts of Botox into shallow muscle in the skin.  This procedure is done approximately once every three months for optimal results.

INFUSION for NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS

Intravenous infusion is a method used to deliver medicine directly into the bloodstream.  The infusion therapy is primarily used to treat conditions in which the conventional oral medication is unproductive.  This includes a range of neurological conditions like Multiple Sclerosis, Neuropathy, and Migraines.

SKIN BIOPSY for SMALL FIBER NEUROPATHY

A skin biopsy is minimally invasive.  We routinely do skin biopsy on 1 side at 2 sites using a 3mm (diameter) biopsy punch.  Since the biopsy size is so small, no stitches are needed.  The biopsy sites will be healed within 1 week but will leave small scars.  This appointment usually takes about a half hour.
